Science National Honor Society
The Science National Honor Society is a service organization that recognizes those students who have met the criteria of scholarship, leadership, character, and service.

Members will provide science tutoring to their peers, assist teachers with lab preps, aid in judging science fairs, and participate in science competitions. Membership in the SciNHS is limited to those students who meet the established criteria, which are as follows:
  • Successfully complete an advanced lab science class.
  • Take fours years of science, at least 1 must be at the AP/College level.
  • Maintain an A average or better in accelerated or regular science class. Must maintain at least a B+ average in all AP Science Courses.
  • All students must take at least one AP/College science before graduation, and must maintain a minimum 3.85 GPA.
  • Tutoring through ASAP or at break is required of the membership. A minimum of 10 hours is required of each member in junior year; 15 hours minimum for seniors.

Applying for membership will begin in March 2017. You may apply as early as the middle of your sophomore year as long as you have no major discipline issues AND have taken or are currently taking at least 1 advanced/honors level science; have at least a B+ or better in all AP science classes or A or better in all regular and honors science courses; and at least an overall GPA of 3.85. In addition, before graduation you must take at least 1 AP science course and take a total of 4 years or more of science. Once a member, you are required to tutor fellow students and participate in Science League to remain a member in good standing. See Mrs. Savva or Sr. Claire for more details.

Criteria for acceptance into provisional membership:

Currently enrolled in an AP or Honors Science course.
No less than an A in all non-AP science courses.
No less than a B+ in all AP science courses.
GPA minimum of 3.85
Finish in the top 8 (of St Joe's students) for any NJ Science League test.


Criteria for continued membership:

Finish in the top 8 (of St Joe's students) for any NJ Science League test.
Have taken or are taking fourth year of science.
No less than an A in all non-AP science courses.
No less than a B+ in all AP science courses.
GPA minimum of 3.85.
Juniors must tutor for a minimum of 10 hours and seniors must tutor for a minimum of 15 hours
