Throughout the past twenty-one years, The Saint Joseph Theatre Company (SJTC) has aimed to offer all students the opportunity to develop new skills and enrich innate and emerging talents in theatre and drama, within areas of performance, technical production, and dramaturgical analysis.
We are based as a training program in arts and education which fosters a holistic approach to our work, together. We also create opportunities for social service and community engagement work at sites such as the Lakeview School and the New Jersey Institute for Disabilities, and the Menlo Park Veterans Home in Edison, NJ, and the area's children's hospitals, among others.
We welcome all levels of experience with theatre and performance--especially new members who may never have had an opportunity to work in this way, before. We are based on the belief that an ensemble which encourages and enriches each other’s best potential is for the betterment of all in our journey, together. Every person's roles and responsibilities are of value and deeply respected.
We aim to produce two major productions within our academic year: usually a fall play, and a spring musical. In addition, we do seasonal community engagement pieces, including a Christmas holiday production, that is performed on campus, as well as in partnership with other non-profit programs at specific venues, as discussed above. In addition, there is a summer program that merges alumni with current and new members of the Saint Joseph Theatre Company, in continued performance and service work, blending community outreach with theatre performances and performing arts productions.
Throughout our time together, our students have gone on to accomplish extraordinary things in theatre, television, and film, and in other areas of performance and production, as well as in professions outside of theatre, where they share that their training and experience as a theatre community offered them a firm foundation for accomplishment, that they would not have had in quite the same way, without their work with our company.
In all things, we strive to reflect the larger mission of the level of academic excellence and spiritual values here at Saint Joseph High School. Our former students have also received thousands of dollars in scholarships in and outside of theatre-some with full academic and artistic funding for their college and university careers-undergraduate and graduate. Our academic and artistic honors programs are established in our International Thespian Honor Society membership and Art National Honor Society for those eligible students. We would encourage you to become a part of our theatre company family. We look forward to having you join us!
Leading into our twentieth year, segueing into this next decade, we began celebrating our 20th Anniversary Gala Season in the summers of 2015/16 with the highly acclaimed SJTC and Alumni Falcon Rep Company productions of "Witness for the Prosecution," and an original musical adaptation of Shakespeare's "Much Ado About Nothing." In between these performances, were the richly compelling productions of
"Inherit the Wind," and "My Fair Lady." Our breathtaking 20th Anniversary Gala was an extraordinary moment in our company's history, as we honoured two decades of the brilliant talents of our students and alumni, and the wonderful families who have been with our highly devoted staff, working together in this ongoing aesthetic and spiritual journey.
We are now in our Twenty-Second Season, having just completed our twenty-first year with powerful and highly acclaimed productions of " Twelve Angry Men,"
"A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum," and our special musical productions of the holiday performances of "Christmas Dreaming," and our summer production of "Over the Rainbow-Finding Home" in partnership with the New Jersey Institute for Disabilities and our collaborative and inclusive Access Arts Program.
The best is yet to come, and we invite you to continue this wondrous journey with us, each step of the way!
Blessings to you and your family, as we ask you to join in becoming a part of our
Saint JosephTheatre Company family, now and always,
