The 24th Annual Brother Bernadine Golf Classic!
Mark your calendars for the 24th Annual Brother Bernadine Golf Classic which will be held on June 10, 2019 at the Metuchen Country Club!
The 24th Annual Brother Bernardine, S.C. Memorial Golf Classic, a charity event that is one of Saint Joseph High School’s biggest fundraisers, will be held June 10 at the Metuchen Golf and Country Club in Edison.
All proceeds from this year’s outing will grant need-based financial assistance to deserving students whose families may lack the resources to provide their sons with a Saint Joseph education.
The memorial golf classic will also honor Brother Richard Leven, S.C., who is celebrating 60 years of professed life as a Brother of the Sacred Heart and who has shaped countless student-athletes during 45 years as a cross country coach at the high school.
Brother Bernardine commenced a 36-year teaching career at Saint Joseph upon the high school’s opening in 1961. The charity golf outing in his memory brings alumni and friends of the school-community together for a wonderful day of golf and camaraderie.
Metuchen Golf and Country Club, located at 244 Plainfield Road in Edison, just two tenths of a mile from the high school, is the home course of the perennial Middlesex County power Saint Joseph golf team, which Brother Bernardine coached for 20 seasons.
Known for its pristine 18-hole championship course, Metuchen Golf and Country Club hosts many state amateur and United States Golf Association Pro-Am tournaments. At more than 6,700 yards from the championship tees, the course is friendly to players of all abilities and still long enough to challenge big hitters. Its well-guarded greens, tree-lined narrow fairways and stingy rough provide challenges for golfers of various skill levels.
The 24th Annual Brother Bernardine, S.C. Memorial Golf Classic will commence on June 10 with registration at 8:30 a.m. Breakfast will be served in the country club’s Metuchen Room from 8:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. A shotgun start with a scramble format immediately follows at 10:30 a.m. Lunch will be served on the course from noon until 1:30 p.m. Refreshments will be available on the course throughout the day. The event will conclude with a cocktail reception, dinner and an awards presentation from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Foursomes containing at least three alumni or current students in their respective class years (a fourth golfer can be any other competitor) can compete to have their graduation year engraved in a highly coveted spot on the prestigious Saint Joseph Class Cup, an honor bestowed upon the quartet featuring at least three graduates from the same class year who record the day’s lowest score.
Games of skill for which prizes will be awarded include a putting contest, longest drive, closest to the pin, best score and hole-in-one.
The cost is $350 per golfer or $1,400 per foursome. A dinner only ticket, which does not include golf, can be purchased for $100.
