Band (Period 8)

WOODWINDS: Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Oboe, Bassoon
BRASS: Trumpet, Trombone, Tuba
PERCUSSION: Drums, Mallet Percussion

1) Basic Knowledge-

a) Proper care and setting up/breaking down
b) Understanding traditional music terms

EXAMPLE: Allegro, Andante, etc.
c) Understanding contemporary music terms
EXAMPLE: Mix, EQ, High/Low impedance
d) Time signatures
e) Key signatures

2) Reading-
a) Bass and treble clef
b) Inside and outside ledger lines
c) Rhythms and note values
d) Sight reading

3) Technique-
a) Scales, smooth and even
b) Chords
c) Use of dynamics and proper articulation
d) Intonation
e) Overall tone/vibrato and range (wind instruments)
f) Rudiments: rolls, flam, paradiddle, etc. (drummers)

Advanced band members will be expected to reach higher proficiency levels on all of the above requirements along with a general understanding of the following:

* Major scales (full range)
* Minor scales- Natural/pure, harmonic, melodic, jazz melodic
* Chromatic scale
* Blues scales
* Pentatonic scales
* Arpeggios
